Ele and I have been friends for 16 years. In that time I witnessed a young girl grow into a beautiful woman.
Ele is the type of friend who is always there for you and never lets you down. She is the type of person you dream of being in the same league as, a role model and a sister. Ele’s days were packed full. She would do more in one day than most would do in a week. She lived more in her short time here than many people will ever live.
When I first became friends with Ele in year 3, I knew that she was a very unique person, Ele was a loyal friend who was known for her honesty and integrity. She was always there when you needed her but asked for very little in return.
As we ventured through our primary school years together we only became closer. Attending her family Docker’s outings where I first witnessed her amazing passion for life and staying up to all hours of the night during our many sleepovers. Ele and I were hard to separate.
Our hearts broke a little when we found out we would not be attending the same high school, but we vowed to remain friends. And we did.
As we all know high school can be a dramatic few years to say the least. Ele and I had each other to escape from our worlds from time to time. When we were together it was like we were 10 years old again. Some people (including ele) have blamed me for ele’s taste in rnb music..and they are right to do so. Ele always thought that I taught her how to dance, however, it was ele’s passion for life that made it effortless to dance the night away with her.
One of my most cherished memories during high school is when Ele sneakily got herself invited to my year 12 ball (it was much harder for me to find a date to hers). After all those years of going to separate high schools we could finally attend the ball that we dreamed about in primary school, together.
During high school, when Ele met Dylan, I wasn’t so sure about this guy who was taking so much of my friends time. But after seeing the two of them together it was clear that this was the one.
Thank you Dyl for taking such good care of Ele, for loving her and being there for her and understanding her.
Thank you to Ele’s family for allowing me into their home and their daughter’s life. I will be forever grateful.
Many people here would have known Ele during different stages of her life. I am lucky that I was able to witness the impact that many of you had on her. Hold on to the moments you shared with Ele, however small they may of seemed in the scheme of her brilliant, bright life. These moments meant the world to Ele and if we keep these moments close to our hearts we will always have Ele with us.
Ele, thank you for being more of a friend than I could have ever asked of you. Thank you for being you. You will be forever young and always in my heart. I will be thinking of you always.
